Predictive Service & Safety (PS²) Sensors
Our PS² sensors perform ultra-precise measurements and are used primarily in cars, commercial vehicles, domestic appliances, and industrial electronics to preventively monitor safety-related functions and determine individual maintenance intervals.
In the field of mobility, PS² sensors serve above all to measure the fluid level and quality of media, the wear level of components, and the status of batteries. This ensures proper functionality and compliance with safety requirements at all times, as well as the individual prediction and optimization of service intervals.
Depending on the application in question, our solutions reduce emissions, promote autonomous driving, or simply help our customers save on costs.
Fluid Level & Quality Measurement
In order to guarantee compliance with the high safety requirements relating to new assistance systems in the automotive industry, for example, the fluids necessary for functionality must always be available in sufficient quantity as well as in the stipulated composition and quality.
Our sensors specifically measure and check the fluid level and quality in applications such as exhaust gas treatment with AdBlue®, water injection in motors, and the cleaning of windshields, cover plates, and lenses.
Sensor keeps engine running
When exhaust gas cleaning is performed on diesel engines using AdBlue®, law requires a measurement of the urea concentration. This is where the AST sensors detect and prevent any contamination.
Clearing the way for autonomous driving
Autonomous or partly autonomous driving is only possible if all camera systems have a clear view – and that requires cleaning fluid. If the fluid tank itself were to freeze up, that would also prevent autonomous driving. The AST sensors therefore measure the fluid level, the temperature, and the antifreeze (ethanol content).
Reduction of consumption and emissions with a water injection system
The AST sensors are suitable for a number of uses including water injection in internal combustion engines, which boosts engine performance and reduces critical exhaust gas temperatures while simultaneously lowering emissions. In this context, the sensors are responsible for monitoring the quantity and purity of the demineralized water.
Alongside driver support through innovative assistance systems, the advance calculation of consumption and wear is another important trend in the automotive industry.
In order to enable the calculation of individually tailored service and maintenance intervals, the fluid level and quality measurements must be complemented by position and status measurements.
Our sensors perform continuous wear and status measurements in brake systems, for example.
In addition, our 3D sensors are used in fast-rotating domestic appliances such as washing machines to detect any imbalance. This helps prevent damage, reduce wear and noise levels, and boost comfort.
Current & Voltage Measurement
A third key area covered by our sensors for the advance calculation of status and wear is the measurement of current, voltage, and temperature in vehicle batteries.
This continuous flow of information on the status of the batteries in the vehicle serves to promote the advance planning of service intervals and optimum vehicle usage.
In addition, our systems help our customers ensure compliance with statutory emissions reduction regulations while boosting the reliability and availability of the individual vehicle.
Our smart sensors are based on the comprehensive battery model and a highly sophisticated calculation algorithm. All this makes it possible to determine the current charge level and performance capacity of the battery – and thus its remaining service life.
