From the solar module to the grid: Transparent energy flows through precise DC measurement

DC measurement is the key to improved transparency in PV systems. While AC measurement only shows what leaves the inverter, DC measurements reveal what is actually generated on the PV side—making losses, performance issues, and the real renewable energy flows visible.

Optimized solar power generation through the combination with DC-coupled battery storage systems

Modern PV parks generate large amounts of renewable energy. However, without grid-friendly integration into the infrastructure, delays in commissioning and curtailment during operation can occur. By combining PV systems with DC-coupled battery energy storage systems (BESS), these disadvantages can be avoided. Generation peaks can be buffered through intermediate storage, and energy feed-in can be shifted to periods with higher electricity prices. DC coupling of storage systems is significantly more efficient than comparable AC-coupled systems, as conversion losses are avoided.

The certified DC meters from AST additionally enable:

  • The use of the storage system for energy arbitrage, as green and grey electricity can be distinguished through precise metering
  • Reduced investment costs thanks to smaller cable cross-sections and fewer converters
  • Optimized utilization of limited grid connection capacities

Through these advantages of the co-location concept, the payback period and overall profitability of photovoltaic projects can be significantly improved.

With DC measurement, the PV system and its associated battery storage become a transparent solar system that can be intelligently controlled. Operators can precisely regulate performance, coordinate storage in a targeted way, and reliably verify the share of renewable electricity.
